6 Environmental Objectives
The EU Taxonomy defines six environmental objectives. Every aligned activity must make a substantial contribution to at least one objective while doing no significant harm to the remaining five.
Climate Change Mitigation
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Climate Change Adaptation
Building resilience to physical climate risks through adaptation solutions for infrastructure, buildings, and economic activities.
Water & Marine Resources
Protecting water quality, ensuring sustainable water use, and preserving the health of marine and freshwater ecosystems.
Circular Economy
Promoting resource efficiency, waste prevention, reuse, and recycling to decouple economic growth from resource consumption.
Pollution Prevention
Preventing and controlling emissions of pollutants to air, water, and soil, and minimising exposure to hazardous substances.
Biodiversity & Ecosystems
Protecting, conserving, and restoring biodiversity and the health of ecosystems, including soil health and land use management.
How Alignment Works
An economic activity is taxonomy-eligible if it is described in the Delegated Acts, regardless of whether it meets the performance thresholds. It is taxonomy-aligned only when all four conditions are met:
