Electricity generation from renewable non-fossil gaseous and liquid fuels
Construction and operation of electricity generation facilities that produce electricity using gaseous and liquid fuels of renewable non-fossil origin.
Substantial Contribution to Climate Change Mitigation
The activity generates electricity using renewable non-fossil gaseous and liquid fuels, including renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based synthetic fuels. Life-cycle GHG emissions from the generation of electricity are lower than 100 gCO2e/kWh, calculated in accordance with Recommendation 2013/179/EU or, alternatively, using ISO 14067:2018 or ISO 14064-1:2018.
The life-cycle assessment must include the upstream production and transport of the fuel. For renewable hydrogen, the electricity used in electrolysis must be sourced from renewable generation meeting the additionality, temporal, and geographic correlation requirements set out in Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/1184. Quantified life-cycle GHG emissions are verified by an independent third party.
DNSH: Climate Change Adaptation
The activity complies with the criteria set out in Appendix A of the Delegated Act. A climate risk and vulnerability assessment proportionate to the scale of the activity has been carried out, and appropriate adaptation solutions are implemented.
DNSH: Water and Marine Resources
The activity does not lead to the deterioration of the good status of bodies of water and complies with Directive 2000/60/EC. Where electrolysis is used for hydrogen production, water abstraction does not compromise the environmental objectives of affected water bodies.
DNSH: Circular Economy
The activity assesses the availability of and, where feasible, adopts techniques that support reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling of fuel cell components and generation equipment at end of life. A waste management plan is in place for construction and decommissioning phases.
DNSH: Pollution Prevention
The activity does not involve the use of substances listed in Annex I or II of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 on persistent organic pollutants. Air emissions from fuel combustion comply with Directive 2010/75/EU (Industrial Emissions Directive) and applicable Best Available Techniques Reference Documents (BREFs).
