Electricity generation from wind power

Construction and operation of electricity generation facilities that produce electricity from wind power.

Substantial Contribution to Climate Change Mitigation

The activity generates electricity from wind power, both onshore and offshore. Life-cycle GHG emissions from the generation of electricity from wind power are lower than 100 gCO2e/kWh, calculated in accordance with the methodology set out in Recommendation 2013/179/EU or, alternatively, using ISO 14067:2018 or ISO 14064-1:2018.

Wind power installations convert kinetic energy from wind into electricity through turbine generators. The technical screening criteria require that life-cycle emissions be verified by an independent third party. The assessment covers the full value chain, including raw material extraction, manufacturing, transport, installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.

DNSH: Climate Change Adaptation

The activity complies with the criteria set out in Appendix A of the Delegated Act. A climate risk and vulnerability assessment proportionate to the scale of the activity has been performed, and adaptation solutions that reduce material physical climate risks have been implemented.

DNSH: Water and Marine Resources

The activity does not lead to the deterioration of the good status of bodies of water and complies with Directive 2000/60/EC. For offshore installations, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed in accordance with Directive 2011/92/EU, addressing impacts on marine water bodies.

DNSH: Circular Economy

The activity assesses the availability of and, where feasible, adopts techniques that support reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling of wind turbine components, particularly blades, at end of life. A waste management plan covers construction waste and decommissioning, ensuring high rates of material recovery.

DNSH: Pollution Prevention

The activity does not involve the use of substances listed in Annex I or II of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. Measures are in place to reduce noise, shadow flicker, and vibration impacts on surrounding communities in compliance with national regulations transposing Directive 2011/92/EU.

DNSH: Biodiversity and Ecosystems

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed in accordance with Directive 2011/92/EU. Required mitigation and compensation measures for protecting the environment, including bird and bat populations and marine biodiversity for offshore installations, are implemented and monitored. Sites are not located in or near biodiversity-sensitive areas unless the assessment demonstrates no significant impact.
